The theme for the short film documentary Steel Homes, is an insight into the minds of people who rent storage units, where they place items that they cant put into their house, but don't want to get rid of them for personal reasons that may be: sentimental value, memoirs of a loved one, a look into past achievements etc. The focus was to bring to light the deep reasons between the storage unit and the owner. Director Eve Webber, is trying to create a new look into the pointlessness of storing things away for ever but at the same time try's to give the audience an understanding of what it's like to have stuff you don't want to get rid of and think it better to be locked away for the individuals personal reasons.
I like Steel Homes because I watch the program 'Storage Hunters' which is basically a show that auctions off storage units like the ones in this documentary because people haven't paid their monthly rents of the unit. I watch this in anticipation of what's inside the unit, and the documentary made me realise that those storage units had owners who may have had really personal memory's within their storage unit and the storage units on the show are just sold and sometimes criticized as being full of junk. So the documentary was a real eye opener, the soundtrack really dealt with the darker deeper side to storage units through its grim mood and the way the people spoke. I think it dealt with this subject really well as it gives an insight into the minds of whose who basically spend a fortune each months just to hide objects away from the world and left to gather dust.
